- Traditional coalescer media is meant to capture and separate widely distributed oil molecules.
- In industrial applications there are typically many other contaminants, such as grit, solids and sludges.
- These contaminants quickly blind over traditional coalescers, causing fluids to just bypass the device.
- When traditional coalescers blind over, the unit must be shut down. The media pack must be removed and power washed. This creates unnecessary maintenance as well as oily wastewater from the cleaning step.
- These 2 photos show clean and dirty media. The media shapes are a bit different but the effect is the same. Source fluids with solids present just turn coalescers into filters that plug up with sludge, creating a maintenance mess.
- SmartSkim® Systems do not use any coalescer media. Our systems are open channel coalescers, which means that they do not blind over. in fact, SmartSkim® Systems are specificaly designed to remove solids as well as oil.
