- Captured oil accumulates in a mat which floats on the fluids inside the separator.
- As this oil mat grows, it dewaters itself by gravity, the farther it rises above the fluid surface.
- At the air-oil interface, the topmost layer of dry captured oil falls out of the separator to an oil collection tote.
