CrossFlow Separators

This is our award winning Crossflow System, the best system in the world for skimming and separating floating oil and contaminants from industrial fluids such as machine coolants and parts washing solutions. All SmartSkim Separator Systems are open channel gravity coalescing separators.

The heart of our Crossflow System is the plate pack. The plate pack creates 40 square feet of non-clog separation surfaces in a four-square-foot footprint. Designed for both oil and floating solids. Plates are on 0.50” centers and will not clog like tortuous path plastic media coalescers. Plate pack is easily removable for periodic separator maintenance. Tank is angle bottomed for easy flushing, eliminating the need to shovel out.

The SmartSkim Crossflow is constructed completely of 304 stainless steel. It works by gravity only. Skimmed fluids are slowly pumped across the separation plates. Oil rises and is captured below the angled plates, then directed out of the flow to a capture zone. At the same time, solids in the skimmed fluids settle out on the angled plates by gravity and fall out of the flow to a capture zone. Cleaned fluids discharge at the end of the plate pack.

Our multi-patent, non-clog skimmers and separators need minimal maintenance, use no consumables and are built to last a lifetime. Low maintenance. Systems installed world wide.

Key Features:

CrossFlow Separators

The award winning SmartSkim® CrossFlow Separator employs “Open Channel” Coalescing which separates both gross solids and free floating oils without plugging.

Gentle approach – won’t split weak emulsions or remove additive packages like a high speed centrifuge will. Can be used with virtually any coolant or cleaner. Gentle flow through the system minimizes any formulation removal and maximizes oil separation. Rising oil droplets don’t have to fight the flow through our separator.

SmartSkim® is low maintenance. The only moving part is the pump. High speed centrifuges and tortuous path coalescers require labor and time to effectively clean and maintain and they can’t deal effectively with any more than a minimal amount of fines and solids.

Quality of construction – Common Sense Engineering Inlet chamber for 1st stage separation of heaviest solids and largest oil droplets. Bubble baffle to disperse source fluid and reduce foaming. Oil removal is simple and relatively free of water. Simple adjustable discharge weir to set level in separator. Sloped bottom of tank makes solids discharge easy and clean. Tank has full bottom drain.

Ease of installation. No electrical panel necessary, only 1 to 2 SCFM of plant air is required to operate pump.

Fair and affordable pricing. No electrical panels.
